PR13 - 3GSM Release.doc

05 February 2007

London, UK, February 8 2007, Moixa Energy, the renewable and portable energy solution specialist and manufacturer of the recently launched USBCELL, is keen to demonstrate that battery technology should be high on the agenda at this years 3GSM. Telecom providers are all set to launch new and exciting phones that deliver more feature rich mobile content, and better MP3, web and Camera functions, but is existing battery technology able to take the power demands of the new technology, is ‘Talk-Time’ going to be affected?

Moixa recently launched USBCELL, a new category of rechargeable anywhere batteries starting with the AA format that recharge from any powered USB port, by simply popping off the lid revealing a connector, meaning users will never run out of battery charge as USB ports provide a ready source of power in the home, office or when travelling.

Simon Daniel, Founder and Director of Moixa Energy, commented: “As people increasingly use their phones as cameras, MP3 and PDA/Web devices, there is a risk of less actual talk-time – the bread and butter of the operator. Batteries run down faster often within a day because the MP3/camera functions are so good so people actually use them, showing photos to people in Pubs, or listening to music during the day, so you are often out of juice earlier, and can’t use the phone as a phone on the way home, and often switch to land lines at home as the phone goes straight onto a charge cradle. However, with USBCELL, consumers can recharge from their home or office computer, games station or from a laptop when travelling”. Chris Wright, Engineering Director, comments “Without better replaceable batteries, or embedded recharge anywhere solutions such as USBCELL technology, phone operator revenues will fall. The battery has now become such a critical component for next generation mobile technology, that only the companies that provide the latest chemistry standard formats, that have mass production quality and cost efficiencies, and are re-usable without waste and inconvenience of carrying cables or accessories – will survive the inevitable Darwinian cull facing a saturated mobile phone market“.

Moixa is pleased to announce that it is working on a range of mobile phone and PDA batteries, that have the ability to charge from any USB port, with all circuity/connections built into the battery, negating the need for plugs, travel adaptors or calling the concierge for hours in a foreign country asking for a charger for a particular phone!

USBCELL has been nominated as a finalist (alongside the Apple Ipod Shuffle) for best consumer product design of 2006 by Design Week UK, and offers consumers a green advantage by significantly reducing battery waste (estimated at over 15 billion batteries annually). USBCELL AA batteries are available internationally from USBCELL.com, and other leading sites in Europe like Pixmania.com and Apple.com, as well as in leading high street retailers such as Dixons Stores Group (Currys/PC World in the UK). The Technology has such broad appeal that it has been featured internationally in various press from the FT, IHT to Vogue and Playboy this month, and USBCELL.com is now the most visited battery manufacturer and brand site online.

USBCELL is part of a wider low-energy strategy Moixa Energy is developing which aims to rid the world of dependency on inefficient AC/DC converters, and help address a number of key issues in modern device power such as:
- Reducing unnecessary adaptor manufacture and energy consumption and hence Carbon Footprint
- Rethinking the energy Axiom – the AC 110/240v mains supply which is becoming inappropriate and wasteful for the increasingly low power needs of modern devices
- Rethinking how greener energy solutions can be integrated faster into the home via local micro-power generators and Low power domestic networks
-Commitment to invent technologies that help consumers home, office or mobile requirements that are more usable, economic and environmental
