Moixa Energy ltd - USBCELL Battery Company has developed and launched a range of re-usable batteries.
USBCELL batteries are standard format cells (e.g. AA, AAA) which can self-charge via an embedded USB connector and circuitry. Simply recharge by plugging into a USB port without the need to carry/find a seperate charger or cable.
The original research was part funded by a 2005/2006 £152k UK LDA grant for research and development award, and the USBCELL battery venture was created in april 2006 following an additional £675k investment round.
USBCELL AA batteries were announced in Sept 2006, and launched into a UK test market, and then rolled out across store sectors in the UK, winning numerous awards for innovation and design - including an iF Gold alongside Apple as a top 50 global design at Cebit.
UK Market Trial: Following the success of the UK market trial and scale up of production, the product is now on international release in 2010 and scaling internationally, together with private label store and segment (e.g. Hasbro PowRFuel)
Recent listings in June 2010 in the US include BestBuy, Circuit City, Tiger Electronics, CompUSA. The product is also on release in EU via Misco Stores and through various partners.
USBCELL batteries are protected by worldwide patents and other intellectual property rights (e.g. see www.usbcell.com/ip) and all legitimate products carry the USBCELL brand, mark, and reference.
The company continues R&D on various intelligent battery formats. USBCELL products include special marketing versions that can cross-sell/advertise during recharging, e.g. for store loyalty programmes, as well as formats for mobile phones and cameras which can also embed flash memory data.
USBCELLs offer significant portability and conveinience to end uses, offering a more economic and environmentally friendly battery technology.
